How Derek earliest memories were rooted in
religion but his connectedness and place of belonging was found
(and still is) in nature.
While Derek was in active addiction he watched
his brother, father, and mother pass away from complications due to
alcoholism which threw him into a deeper state of
depression.
It wasn’t until a suicide attempt, that Derek
decided to put himself through rehab.
